If you’ve ever flipped through ESPN on a Saturday morning, you’ve probably have seen this. You know, that outdoor show with people behind the set going absolutely crazy for two hours straight and an old guy putting on a mascot head at the end. If you’ve seen College Gameday, you know what I’m talking about.
For those who don’t know, College Gameday is not your typical ESPN sports show. It doesn’t take place in a studio. It doesn’t take place in a controlled environment. And, in some cases, it doesn’t even have it’s own script. In fact, it’s just about opposite of those “normal” shows.
College Gamedays goes around the country, stopping at college stadiums that will be hosting the biggest game that week. They set up in a central area on campus with a large area, ready for thousands of screaming fans to come.
For two hours, the three guys, Chris Fowler, Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstriet, talk about college football while screaming fans, cheerleaders and bands go crazy behind them. Sometimes, it does become somewhat distracting.
But even if you’re not a fan of the two teams playing, there’s a reason to watch. It is a COLLEGE football show and they do talk about the sport. The two analyst (Corse and Herbstriet) provide good insight.
But probably the best reason to watch is at the end of the show. The two go through their picks of all of the big games around the country culminating with the game of the week. Then, in what now seems a tradition on the show, Corso puts on the mascot head of the team he picks to win that game and either the crowd loves him or he’s the most hated person on campus.
So the next time you’re bored on a Saturday morning, flip over to ESPN and catch up with the College Gameday crew.
