Friday night the boys basketball team moved down in district 4-5A after a loss to Bowie High School. It was a 52-42 loss for Summit which set back district plans to tie Summit for third with Mansfield.

“We came out tentative,” said head coach Jason Muterer. “Offensively we needed to hit more shots early in the game, but we didn’t. The team as a whole needs to up the tempo. We let the 4th quarter become a half court which ultimately caused us the game so this next week we can’t let that happen.”

The Jags started out the game only scoring 6 points compared to Bowies 18 points. It suddenly looked like the game would be a blowout for Bowie. Then the Jags stepped up their game to bring their score back up to 23, almost matching Bowies 27 at half time.

“We just weren’t there at first,” said one of Summits guards, Wesley Davis. “Everyones game was off and our score showed it. We slowly started coming back in the second quarter and through the third but then we hit the fourth and fell apart.”

By the fourth quarter the Jags had obtained their first lead of the game. It had never exceeded 4 points, but it was still a lead. Then in the fourth quarter the Jags let the game become a half court game causing them to earn 4 points while Bowie earned 16 which lost Summit the game.

“I think we played our best,” said point guard, Quentin Johnson. “Bowie was real physical and we just didn’t match them at that, and we just broke down in the fourth quarter. I think thats why we lost the game.”

Despite the loss the boys still have a chance in the playoffs. At the moment they are tied for 3rd with Mansfield in district with 6 games left in the season. They will face Mansfield this Friday at home, who are coming off a 58-61 loss to Arlington.
