In their final home game as a Summit Lady Jag, the seven seniors dominated the Arlington Lady Colts to an 84-17 win. The seniors scored 72 of the team’s 84 points.
“I’m extremely happy,” Head Coach Tammy Lusinger said. “I think they went out in style and we talked about making it their best game here and they went out and got after it.”
Post Breanna Harris ended on high note leading all scorers with 20 points. Taylor Hooker finished with 14 and Amy Moody added 13.
“It’s great for us,” Moody said. “It was a happy ending for me in our senior year in district.”
For Post Loren McDaniel, tonight was extra special. Before the game, she was presented with a certificate for being announced as a nominee for the McDonald’s All-American Game.
“It feels good,” McDaniel said. “I was proud of myself because I felt like I worked hard.”
Some of the seniors were on the same team that went state and lost in the state semifinals. Moody believes that experience helped them pick up their first state championship.
“Making it to state [my freshman year, when we went back again made it that more relaxed and I got my jitters out my freshman year,” Moody said.
Looking ahead towards playoffs, the Lady Jags will most likely start off against Haltom or Burleson who are currently battling in District 3-5A. The Lady Jags defeated the Lady Elks last year 56-25 in the opening round of playoffs. Hooker said they have a lot of things to work on for this year’s playoff run.
“We have to work on our half-court offense and gel together as a team,” Hooker said. “We’re not quite there yet.”
The Lady Jags will end their regular season action on the road at Sam Houston. The Lady Texans come in with a 2-8 record in district and a 51-34 loss to Martin. Moody pumped to get another shot a Sam Houston to close out district play.
“We want to kill them like we did the first time,” Moody said. “We just want to come out hard, come out strong come out ready and play how you know.”
